(Portland, OR) August 16, 2021 – Medical Teams International, a global health and disaster response organization, is partnering with Food for the Hungry in Haiti, where a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck on August 14, claiming the lives of nearly 2,000 people and affecting more than 2.2 million people. There are reports of significant damage to homes, roads, and infrastructure. Access to medical care is limited.

Medical Teams is working with Food for the Hungry and Integral Alliance partners to help provide life-saving care, and is monitoring for opportunities to support the humanitarian health response further. Medical Teams plans to help provide food, water, and hygiene kits to people affected by the earthquake, especially those in urgent need of health care.

“Medical Teams has a history of responding to disasters in Haiti, and we have many friends and partners who have been impacted by this tragedy,” said Martha Newsome, President & CEO of Medical Teams. “Our hearts are with them and all Haitians suffering because of this latest disaster in an already fragile context. We are pleased to be able to work with Food for the Hungry and Integral Alliance to maximize the resources we are receiving from our generous and caring donors.”
